Dr Magdalena M Koy

Dr Magdalena M KoyMagda grew up in Bayside Melbourne and attended Star of the Sea and MacRobertson Girls High Schools. Magda then studied dentistry at the University of Sydney, graduating in 2000 with honours and receiving the medal for excellence in removable prosthodontics (dentures). Whilst studying, Magda also won a scholarship with Rotary to travel to Vietnam where she worked with the Australian Rotary Dental Team.

Magda then gained extensive experience in private practices in Perth and Sydney before moving to England to further her dental experience and travel widely. Magda completed further study whilst in the UK with the prestigious British Society of Occlusal Studies, gaining advanced skills in treating bite and jaw joint problems. Magda returned to Melbourne in 2005 and has been working in a cosmetic and implant dental practice.

Magda has a number of special interests in dentistry – she loves treating children and helping anxious patients overcome their fears. Magda also has a passion for cosmetic dentistry, having completed continuing education in the USA with the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry. Magda attends many continuing education events and is a member of the Melbourne Seattle Study Club and the Australian Society for Occlusal Studies. As such, she provides all of her patients with the most up to date, comprehensive, preventive and conservative range of dental treatments.

Magda is married to Mike and lives locally in Sandringham. Magda is currently pregnant and as she is due in late November with their first child, She therefore will be available to care for you early in 2007. In her spare time, Magda enjoys playing golf and tennis and attending the theatre.

Dr Michael D Letham BDS (Hons)

Dr Michael D LethamMike graduated from the University of Sydney in 2000 with Honours, receiving the R Morse Withycombe Prize for Proficiency in Clinical Periodontics (gum treatment).

Mike was commissioned as an officer in the Royal Australian Navy in 2000 and worked as a dentist in the Navy until 2003, including service in the Persian Gulf where he received the Australian Active Service Medal. From 2003-2005, Mike worked in the UK in private practices gaining fabulous experience in all areas of dentistry. Mike returned to Melbourne in late 2005 and has worked in a number of distinguished practices whilst finding the right location to establish Bayside Smiles.

Mike enjoys all facets of dentistry but has a number of special interests. After studying with the British Society of Occlusal Studies, Mike gained an advanced knowledge of diagnosing and treating problems with occlusion (the bite). Mike also has an interest in periodontics and is currently undertaking further training in implant dentistry. Mike is also passionate about providing preventive and conservative treatment to his patients, whilst striving for beautiful, aesthetic results.

Mike keeps up to date with the latest dental evidence and techniques through hours of continuing professional development annually. This includes attending courses in Australia, the UK and the USA and membership of many professional organizations. These include the Australian Dental Association, American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, Australian Society for Occlusal Studies and the Melbourne Seattle Study Club. Mike is therefore highly trained in the latest preventive and cosmetic techniques.

Mike is married to Magda, lives in Sandringham and is looking forward to becoming a dad in November 2006! In his spare time, he is a confirmed golf nut but also loves jazz music (being a trumpet player) and attending the Melbourne Theatre Company's latest offerings.
